Prince Johannes

Prince Johannes von Thurn und Taxis was born on 5 June 1926 in Höfling Castle near Regensburg. He became the 11th  Prince von Thurn und Taxis. Prince Johannes was the eldest son of Prince Karl August (1898 - 1982) and Princess Maria Anna von Braganza (1899 - 1971). He attended elementary school and grammar school in Regensburg. As his father was fervently opposed to National Socialism, his parents forbade him from joining the Hilter Youth.

His grandfather, Prince Albert I. (1867 – 1952), appointed his grandson Johannes as his sole heir in his will. To prepare him for his future responsibilities, Johannes completed a banking apprenticeships in Nuremberg.

On 30 May 1980 he married Gloria Countess von Schönburg-Glauchau in St. Emmeram Palace in Regensburg. They have three children: Princess Maria Theresia (born in 1980), Princess Elisabeth (born in 1982) and Prince Albert II, (born in 1983). Prince Johannes died on 14 December 1990.
